Constance to tackle youth unemployment

The new post of Scotland’s youth employment minister has been given to Angela Constance, formerly the minister for children and young people.

The post comes with a £30 million budget that will be devoted to helping the 100,000 16 to 24-year-olds now out of work in Scotland.

Aileen Campbell, who was minister for local government and planning, moves to Ms Constance’s old job, while SNP MSP Derek Mackay joins the government after being given Ms Campbell’s former brief.

The changes to the Scottish Government’s ministerial team were announced following the weekly cabinet meeting – which was chaired by Nicola Sturgeon.
