Concern over Shetland’s books

SHETLAND Islands Council has been warned by Scotland’s local government watchdog that “significant concerns” about its financial management still need to be addressed.

The Accounts Commission ruled that Scotland’s most northerly local authority had “serious problems” with leadership, vision and strategic direction in a scathing report, published in August 2010.

A fresh report concludes that the Shetland council has made good progress.
