Scheduled for this afternoon, the debate comes amid growing concern over the new National qualifications, which have replaced Standard Grades under Curriculum for Excellence.
Scottish Labour have called on the Scottish Government to publish the action plan to allay fears over schools’ readiness for the new exams, which are just weeks away.
Yesterday, teaching unions told members of the Scottish Parliament’s education committee of concerns about a lack of practice papers for the new exams.
Labour MSP Neil Bibby said: “While we welcome the belated announcement of extra resources, the Scottish Government need to develop an urgent action plan to allay any outstanding concerns. In addition, as the EIS have said, we need to ‘learn lessons’ from this situation and that’s why there should be an independent review of the implementation process this summer. I hope all parties will support this call.”
