Policing cash required for major events

LOTHIAN and Borders Police is planning to ask the Scottish Government for more money to police major events in the city.

Police costs for such events for 2010-11 have increased by £1.3 million (217 per cent) from 2009-10.

Chief Constable David Strang said the Scottish Government promoting Scotland on the world stage would lead to a significant number of visiting politicians and VIPs to the city, while the economic downturn would result in more protest marches.
