Police warn of bogus workmen

BOGUS workmen who have struck across the force area are being hunted by police.

In one of the incidents, a man called at a woman's door in Stone Place in Mayfield, Midlothian, at around 4pm on Wednesday and claimed to be checking her water supply.

The woman refused him entry and saw him make off in a blue car with at least one other passenger.

At around 4.15pm the previous day, men matching the description were also seen driving in a blue hatchback car through Newtongrange. The vehicle committed a number of road traffic offences before heading south on the A7.

Lothian and Borders Police believe the same men targeted an 85-year-old man in Galashiels the previous day, gaining entry to his home but escaping empty-handed. The suspects also stole cash from an elderly couple in nearby Stow.
