Police urge those in crisis to seek help

POLICE have issued a reminder to anyone suffering from personal crises over the festive period about help available from 24-hour services.

Lothian and Borders Police said the force was committed to working alongside mental health charities, NHS Lothian and local authorities to provide the appropriate assistance to those in need.

Superintendent Kevin Murray, from the force’s safer communities department, said: “It is important for those who struggle at this time of year to be aware of all the services available to help you get by.

“The loss of life is such a tragedy and I would strongly urge anyone who feels they have no other option to pick up the phone and speak to someone who can help. You are never alone and talking about issues causing you concern allows others to assist you.”

Police reminded people in need that 24-hour contact was offered by The Samaritans on 08457 90 90 90, Breathing Space on 0800 83 85 87, and Childline on 0800 11 11 11.

Officers also asked family, friends and work colleagues to look out for signs of depression in others.
