Police station hosts child safety day

Lothian and Borders Police have hosted a multi-agency event to promote child safety in the West of Edinburgh.

The Oxgangs Child Safety Day took place at the Oxgangs Police Station and was aimed at all Primary Three children from the area.

Around 450 pupils from local schools attended yesterday’s seminar where they had the opportunity to speak with officials from a range of
organisations.

Officers from the Oxgangs Safer Neighbourhood Team joined colleagues from Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service, Scottish Ambulance Service, SSPCA, Health and Safety Executive and Countryside Rangers during the event. A number of local councillors and Gordon McDonald MSP attended to observe the partnership approach in promoting child safety.

In the run-up to the Child Safety Day, the children took part in a competition to design a poster that reflects what safety means to them.

Inspector Stephen Dolan said: “Keeping our children safe from harm is a key priority not just for us, but for all of the agencies involved.”
