Police seize £200,000 of heroin in Tayside

The drugs were recovered as part of “Operation Shrug” and involved officers from Police Scotland in Angus, supported by colleagues from Aberdeen, Dundee and Fife.

A force spokeswoman said: ”A significant amount of heroin with a street value of over £200,000 has already been recovered in one house,

with evidence of drug abuse and other criminality in other addresses.

A number of people have been arrested and detained and are currently being interviewed at custody centres in Dundee and Arbroath. It is

expected that at least four individuals will be charged with drug trafficking offences and will be appearing at court in Arbroath on Thursday.”

She said that officers had executed a number of drug search warrants and that houses in both Arbroath and Dundee had been raided this morning. The spokeswoman added: “Specially trained search officers and drugs detection dogs are currently carrying out meticulous searching of the five addresses.”

The officer leading Operation Shrug, Chief Inspector Gordon Milne said: “We have been working on Operation Shrug for the last three months and today is the culmination of that hard work to build intelligence, identify people involved in this evil trade and to take enforcement.

“I have no tolerance whatsoever for people who deal in drugs. They are responsible for misery, death and harm within our communities and Police Scotland will take every conceivable opportunity to disrupt their vile activities.”

Today is a good day in this fight against the drug dealer. We have taken a substantial amount of drugs off the streets, which would have ended up in the arm of some young person. We have arrested a number of key individuals who we know were instrumental in the drugs distribution network across Dundee and Angus.”

He added: “However, we will not stop here. Operation Shrug will continue until I am satisfied that this particular group has been dismantled and is no longer capable of causing any more misery to the people of Tayside.”
