Police seek to identify man found dead on Gullane beach

POLICE are investigating the discovery of a body on a beach at a Lothian beauty spot.

The man, believed to be middle-aged, was found at around 10am yesterday in a remote spot between Gullane Point and Aberlady Bay in Gullane, East Lothian.

Officers believe he died on the beach and said his death was being treated as non-suspicious. They are now appealing for help to identify the man, who is described as being approximately 5ft 5in tall and of slim build, with fair hair and black wide-rimmed glasses. He was wearing black shoes and black trousers and had two grey fleece jackets on under a blue waterproof jacket.

A rucksack was found a short distance away from his body and had items stored in waterproof bags, leading officers to believe the man may have a seasoned walker.

A police spokeswoman said: “We believe the gentleman has died on the beach rather than being washed up.”
