Police saddle up on patrol

MORE than 120 bikes are being used by Lothian and Borders Police to carry out patrols across the force area.

New figures show 61 bikes are available in Edinburgh, with 67 trained officers able to use them. Twenty-four bikes can be used by 46 officers in East and Midlothian, while 37 bikes are available for use on patrols by 58 officers in West Lothian.

A police spokesman said: "The bikes allow officers easy access to areas not easily accessible by car."
