John McMurchie, 50, a night watchman from Errol in Perthshire, was found fatally injured in Fintry Terrace, in the Whitfield area of the city, in the early hours of Sunday, 12 August.

Mr McMurchie, a father-of-five and grandfather-of-two, was rushed by ambulance to the city’s Ninewells Hospital where he died a short time later.

Police investigating the murder have still to establish a motive for the killing.

But it is known that Mr McMurchie had been socialising with friends in Dundee pubs including the Dolphin Bar in Fintry from about 5pm on the Saturday night before his death.

He then moved on to the Balmore Bar and Albert Bar in the Stobswell area until closing time before accompanying friends to an address in Murrayfield Gardens in Whifield.

Tayside Police have now released CCTV images in a bid to identify a man who was seen walking in the area of the Whitfield Shopping Centre a short time before Mr McMurchie was found lying in Fintry Terrace.

A force spokesman said: “He may have information vital to the investigation. He can be seen to be wearing an orange coloured jacket with the hood up and is also known to have been wearing black coloured bottoms and white coloured footwear.

“Anyone who knows this man or who has information that could assist enquiries should call Tayside Police.”

The charity Crimestoppers is offering a £1,000 reward for information that would lead Tayside Police to a successful murder conviction in relation to Mr McMurchie’s death.
