Police probe new claims against Hearts defender Thomson

POLICE have confirmed they are making inquiries into fresh allegations against a Hearts footballer who has been placed on the sex offenders register.

• Craig Thomson

Craig Thomson was suspended by the club following his conviction earlier this month for lewd, libidinous and indecent behaviour towards two under-age girls.

The club initially said it was standing by the 20-year-old but then changed its position.

Lothian and Borders Police said they are now looking into information passed to them by a third party.

A police spokesman said: "We are making inquiries into the possibility that another person has grounds for complaint."

Yesterday, Scottish Premier League chief executive Neil Doncaster stressed the organisation must not become involved in the affair.

He insisted Hearts must be left alone to decide Thomson's future.
