POLICE have launched an investigation into allegations of abuse directed at Celtic manager Neil Lennon during a League Cup semi-final at Tynecastle stadium.

Lennon has said he was verbally abused and that coins and plastic cups were thrown in the area of the stand where he was sitting with other Celtic officials and staff from Hearts FC.

He was watching the match between Aberdeen and St Johnstone on Saturday at the Edinburgh stadium.

The Football Coordinating Unit Scotland are now investigating the allegations, it emerged last night.

Part of the investigation will include looking at CCTV footage from the game.
