Police issue warrant for sex assault suspect

Police have issued a warrant for a 25-year-old man in relation to a “brutal and unprovoked” sexual assault on a woman in a playpark as she walked home following a night out.

The 23-year-old was taken to hospital with serious facial injuries following the assault in Pilrig Park, Edinburgh, early on Sunday.

She had been out with friends at the Picture House nightclub and left around 3am, Lothian and Borders Police said. She was discovered in a play area of Pilrig Park at 6am by members of the public.

Police say their enquiries have identified a man who is of interest to the investigation and are currently trying to establish his whereabouts.

They added that no other individuals are being sought.
