Detective Sergeant Andrew Piper, from Strathclyde Police, said: "At this time we are trying to establish a motive for this crime and why the householders have been targeted.

"I would appeal to anyone who was in the area on Sunday afternoon and saw or heard anything to come forward.

"Officers are currently studying local CCTV and carrying out door-to-door enquires.

"I believe someone in the local community may have vital information and ask anyone with knowledge of this incident to come forward."

The suspect is believed to have been driven to the street in a red or burgundy car.

He left in the same car which sped off towards Spey Road, police said.

The man wore a dark hooded top with the hood up, a black jumper, and possibly a black balaclava with a white pattern on the front.
