Police hunt for baseball bat attacker

POLICE are probing a baseball bat attack on a man who was left for dead in the street.

The 42-year-old victim was found unconscious with serious head injuries on Lochend Avenue at 11pm on Saturday and rushed to hospital in a critical condition.

He was later transferred to St John’s Hospital in Livingston for specialist treatment, where his condition is said to be serious but not life threatening.

But the injuries mean the man cannot remember anything about the attack.

Police have now launched an appeal for witnesses but they are said to be following a positive line of inquiry.

Meanwhile, police are appealing for witnesses after a man was left unconscious following an alleged attack in Dalkeith on Sunday morning.

The 48-year-old was allegedly punched before falling and hitting his head at the taxi rank in Lothian Street at around 1.15am. He is said to be in a serious but stable condition and a 24-year-old man has been charged in connection with the incident.
