Police in fresh appeal over murder

Detectives investigating the murder of a teenager have issued a fresh appeal for information about his death.

The body of Jack Doyle, 17, was found at the rear of houses on Hope Street near Antigua Street, Greenock, on Tuesday 3 January.

He was the nephew of Elaine Doyle, who was killed on her way home from a disco in June 1986 when she was 16. That crime has never been solved.

Police investigating Jack’s death said they are particularly keen to hear from a man who called them anonymously several times from a public phone box.

Detective Chief Inspector Duncan Sloan of Greenock CID said: “I would ask that the man who contacted us on several occasions from a public telephone box in the central area of Greenock to please get in touch with us again.

“I would like to reassure him again that any information he passes to us will be treated in complete confidence.”
