Police face 300 abuse reports

MORE than 300 domestic abuse incidents were reported in East Lothian over a four-month period, new police figures have shown.

The figures revealed that 180 of the 305 incidents involved repeat victims, while 141 of the cases recorded involved "some degree of alcohol or substance misuse".

A total of 75 of the incidents resulted in a report being submitted to the procurator fiscal

Police said a "significant rise" in reported incidents occurred during December, particularly between Christmas and New Year. During the same period for the previous year, police recorded 304 domestic abuse incidents.

Police in East Lothian have been closely monitoring domestic abuse incidents in the county in a bid to build up a better picture of the extent of the problem.
