Police chief’s praise for Suzanne Pilley family

CHIEF Constable David Strang has praised the parents of murdered bookkeeper Suzanne Pilley for their “dignity” and “strength of character” shown during the investigation and trial.

Mr Strang said Sylvia and Rob Pilley underwent a “harrowing ordeal” after their daughter was murdered by David Gilroy.

It was revealed yesterday that 49-year-old Gilroy had begun an appeal against his conviction for killing the 38-year-old in May 2010 and hiding her body, which has never been found.

Gilroy received a life sentence with a minimum 18 years behind bars after being convicted at trial.

Mr Strang said: “Lord Bracadale’s comments when passing sentence, when he spoke of the force’s ‘commendably thorough’ investigation, highlighted our commitment to achieving justice for Suzanne and her family.

“The dignity shown by Suzanne’s parents during the investigation and subsequent trial is testament to their strength of character, during what was a harrowing ordeal for them.”
