Police called to 9000 pub incidents over 20 months

POLICE were called out to more than 9000 incidents at pubs in Edinburgh over a 20-month period, new figures revealed today.

Officers were called to 6294 incidents related to licensed premises in the city centre and 1194 in the north of the Capital and Leith between March 2010 and November last year.

Officers attended 287 incidents at pubs in east Edinburgh during the same period, 687 in the south of the city, 394 in the west, and in 489 the Pentlands area.

At nightclubs in Edinburgh, police figures showed that officers were called to deal with 1421 alleged offences between March 2010 and September last year.

The offences included 800 alleged thefts, 32 serious assaults, 382 minor assaults, 70 cases of drug possession, two for drug dealing, and nine for carrying weapons.
