THE police call centre for the Lothians has continued to hit national targets for answering 999 calls within ten seconds, according to a report.

The facility at Bilston Glen answered 95 per cent of the 63,853 emergency calls received between April and October within the time target.

That means the £10.4 million facility exceeded its goal of 90 per cent.

During the same period, the police figures showed 98 per cent of the 363,222 non-emergency calls to the Force Communication Centre switchboard were answered in the target of 40 seconds.

One per cent of these calls was abandoned before being answered.

In its report, the force said that the percentage of 999 calls answered within ten seconds “remains consistently above target”.
