Police boxes set to host surgeries

THREE police boxes which have been re-opened for use are set to host a series of community surgeries in the Capital.

The iconic structures in Craigentinny Road, Jock’s Lodge and Duddingston Road West were brought back into service in May.

Officers with the Safer Neighbourhood Team are using the refurbished boxes to stage a Have Your Say week between Monday and Saturday, and members of the public are invited to come along and discuss policing issues they have for their area.

Sergeant David Robertson said: “When we took the decision to re-open these police boxes, we knew this wasn’t a temporary measure and were keen to explore any opportunities to use them.

“The last community surgeries were a great success with many members of the public turning up to speak with their local officers.

“Now that our police boxes have been repainted, they are a more focal point within their communities and we anticipate another good turnout for the upcoming Have Your Say event.

“We are keen for locals to show up with their bikes, which we are happy to security mark and offer them all the necessary information they require for keeping themselves and their bikes safe.”
