Police beat call centre target times

THE police call centre for the Lothians has continued to hit national targets for answering 999 calls within ten seconds, according to a report.

The facility at Bilston Glen answered 96 per cent of the 25,315 emergency calls received between April and June within the time target.

That means the £10.4 million facility exceeded its goal of 90 per cent.

During the same period, the police figures showed 98 per cent of the 150,656 non-emergency calls to the Force Communication Centre switchboard were answered in the target of 40 seconds.

Two per cent of these calls was abandoned before being answered. During the same period, police officers attended 88 per cent of 5782 emergency incidents within the target times. The targets are ten minutes for Edinburgh and 20 minutes for rural areas.
