Police on the ball with calls

THE police call centre at Bilston Glen has continued to hit national targets for answering 999 calls, according to new figures.

The Midlothian centre answered 95 per cent of emergency calls within ten seconds between April last year and March, exceeding the target of 90 per cent.

The figures, outlined in a report to the police board by Chief Constable David Strang, said that the "monthly average never dropped below 94 per cent and the highest monthly response rate was 97 per cent".

During the same period, the figures showed an average of 98 per cent of non-emergency calls were answered within the 40 second target, while the monthly average never fell below 97 per cent.
