Police appeal over body found in ERI car park

Police investigating the death of a man whose body was found in bushes in the car park at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary are appealing for information about a group who may have been in his company over the weekend.

The man’s body was discovered in bushes within the grounds of the hospital just off Old Dalkeith Road, at about 2.45pm yesterday.

He has not yet been identified.

His death was initially treated as unexplained but a spokeswoman for Police Scotland said today that detectives now believe it is suspicious due to the man having suffered a number of injuries.

Investigations so far suggest the man was one of a group of four men - possibly of Eastern European origin - who got off a bus in Old Dalkeith Road on Friday night.

Officers want to speak to anyone who may have been in the area of the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh about 10pm on April 5, and who may have seen this group.

Detective Chief Inspector David McLaren said: “We are working to establish how this man came by his injuries, and we would be keen to hear from anyone who might have seen the group of men on Old Dalkeith Road on Friday night, and who might have some valuable information regarding this inquiry.

“Furthermore, we would ask anyone who might have any information that could help identify the man to contact us on 101.”
