Police appeal after second Livingston sex attack

A woman was subjected to a "terrifying" sex attack near a public footpath in West Lothian.

The sexual assault took place in bushes close to the path between Cedarbank and Cloverbank in the Ladywell area of Livingston.

Lothian and Borders Police said they are pursuing a "positive line of enquiry" following the attack at around 5.15pm yesterday and officers are keen to talk to anyone who was in the area at the time.

The suspect is said to be a white man, around 26, slim and 5ft 8ins.

He had short fair or light brown hair, was clean-shaven and was wearing dark jeans, a dark long-sleeved top, a dark waterproof jacket and a dark baseball cap with yellow writing.

Investigating officers said the assault was not linked to the alleged rape of a 39-year-old woman at a house in the Deans area of the town on Saturday.

John McKeown, 22, appeared at Livingston Sheriff Court yesterday in connection with the alleged incident and was remanded in custody.

Detective Inspector Phil Gachagan, who is leading the hunt for the attacker, said investigations were continuing at the scene today.

He said: "We are rigorously pursuing a positive line of enquiry in connection with this incident and are keen to hear from anyone who may have been in the area, and may have seen or heard anything suspicious.

"This has been a terrifying ordeal for the young woman involved and we are dedicating our full resources to trace the person responsible, so it is vital anyone with any information comes forward."
