Police appeal after car stolen containing ammunition

POLICE are appealing for information after a car containing ammunition was stolen in the Capital.

The silver Mercedes C-Class was stolen from a business property on North Leith Sands on Monday November 1.

A number of shotgun cartridges, which were in the vehicle when it was stolen, were also recovered when officers found the vehicle last night in Bonnington Place, off Anderson Place.

Detectives are still trying to trace a man who was acting suspiciously in the area of North Leith Sands prior to the theft, and are urging anyone who may have seen him to come forward.

He is described as white, between 24 and 30, between 5ft 4ins and 5ft 6ins tall with a thin build, short black hair and thin pale face.

A police spokesman said: "We are obviously relieved that the car and the ammunition have been fully recovered but officers are still keen to speak with anyone who can assist us in identifying the suspect.

"Anyone with information that can assist with our investigation is asked to contact police immediately."
