Plea for charity shop helpers

Barnardo's Scotland is set to kick off the New Year with a recruitment drive in Edinburgh and the Lothians.

The charity's shops in Edinburgh City, Stockbridge, Leith, Portobello, Wester Hailes, Gorgie and Grassmarket are looking for retail volunteers.

Sharon Jamieson, area manager, said: "Without the army of volunteers who help in our shops, we simply wouldn't be able to keep the shops running smoothly. We are finding the shops increasingly busy and we could do with more help.

"Through volunteering, people will learn new skills, be part of their local community and perhaps find a new career in retail, but most importantly their help will enable the charity to support disadvantaged children and young people."
