Planners review buildings at Royal Edinburgh

PLANNERS behind the review of services at the city's psychiatric hospital have been asked to source alternative uses for its ageing buildings.

NHS Lothian is conducting a review of the Royal Edinburgh Hospital in Morningside and is understood to be on the verge of outlining a final proposal.

Options include remaining at the site, or relocating various services at Little France, the Western General and possibly even St John's Hospital in Livingston.

It has now emerged that as part of the scheme planners have been asked to consider what else the buildings at the sprawling site could be used for.

It is the first indication that the health board may want to retain the site to be used for other reasons.
