A full emergency was declared at Stornoway Airport last night after a plane travelling from Wick to Iceland reported difficulties with one engine.

The twin-engine Cessna with two people on board landed safely at about 7.15pm.

A Police Scotland spokesman said the A866 Stornoway to Point road was closed for a period of time as emergency services attended to the incident.

He added: “Police Stornoway would like to thank members of the public for the patience at the time.”
