Pizza chef guilty of attempted rape in Leith

A PIZZA chef has been found guilty of trying to rape a student in a flat in Leith.

Rafal Zebrowski had his name added to the Sex Offenders’ Register at the High Court in Livingston today, where sentence was deferred for reports.

Zebrowski, 25, who came to Edinburgh from his native Poland five years ago to work, had denied attacking the 21-year-old woman – who can’t be named for legal reasons.

The jury heard evidence that he forced the woman’s mobile phone into her mouth, tore off her clothing and tried to make her perform a sex act on him during the incident on Friday January 13, last year.

Lebrowski lodged a special defence of automatism, claiming he had “a hole in his memory” which meant he was not responsible for his actions.

But the jury took less than an hour to return a unanimous guilty verdict at the end of the three-day trial.

Lebrowski will be sentenced at the High Court in Edinburgh on April 18.
