Pilots are quizzed after mobile lands on runway

Two British Airways pilots have been questioned by police after a mobile phone was reportedly thrown from the cockpit window on to an airport runway.

The alleged incident happened about 7:30pm on Friday, shortly before the London-bound flight was due to take off from Edinburgh Airport.

Flight BA2945 had already been delayed by the RAF's Red Arrows display team, when a crew member found a mobile phone and handed it to the captain after none of the passengers claimed it. The unnamed pilot reportedly radioed air traffic control for permission to drop the phone out the window but this was refused. He allegedly put the phone in a bag and threw it to the ground.

Both the airline and police said the matter was being investigated and it is understood the captain and co-pilot have been questioned by police.

A spokesman for Lothian and Borders Police said: "We are investigating after a mobile phone was reported to have been thrown from a plane on to the runway at Edinburgh Airport about 7.30pm on June 24."
