Pictures of new Facebook smart phone are leaked

A PHOTO believed to show the new Facebook phone due to be revealed by the social networking site’s founder Mark Zuckerberg this week has been leaked on the internet, according to claims.

The handset, which is widely expected to be made by mobile phone firm HTC, appears to have been dubbed the HTC First.

The picture, shown on the evleaks Twitter account, shows a handset design similar to that of Apple’s iPhone, with a prominent round home button included.

The new phone will likely be aimed at the mass market, and is expected to retail at a relatively low price.

Android Police, a website that covers news items relating to the operating system, has predicted that software will be released at the same time aimed at allowing the Facebook ‘home’ application powering the phone to be compatible with other handsets.

Running under the code name ‘Myst’, the brand new handset will feature recognisable Facebook screens and menus - and as with the Facebook website and corresponding smartphone apps, will most likely require the user to sign in.

Several commentators have warned that software issued for other Android phones is likely to come with limited features, with Android Police adding that the Facebook Phone has few disinguishing features, and looks like a ‘mostly stock, mid-range’ device that has been ‘attacked by a mutant Facebook app’.

While the leaked photos and information provide very little in-depth detail, the phone is expected to come with ‘launcher’ software that will act as a secondary homescreen for users.
