This is the heartwarming moment a photographer caught a man pop the question to his girlfriend - on top of a stunning Scottish peak.

Rob Jamieson, 54, went for a dawn hike up Ben A’an in Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park to enjoy the peace and quiet before anyone else was there.

But as he took in the view at 7am he spotted a young couple approach the hilltop, which overlooks the a 13km-long freshwater Loch Katrine.

The man asked his partner to head onto the peak so he could take a picture of them with his camera propped up on a timer.

But as the man walked toward his unwitting girlfriend he got down on one knee to pop the big question.

Rob quickly realised what was happening and got his camera out to capture the special moment, with the beautiful landscape as the backdrop.

He said: “I got up early to walk in the peace and quiet before anyone else was there.

“I was just sitting relaxing, eating a chocolate bar, when I heard footsteps behind me and saw this young couple coming.

“The man set up his camera and asked his girlfriend to stand on the peak so he could take a picture of them.

“Then he said to her ‘actually I’ll get in the picture too’ and put the camera on timer.

“He pointed out the camera to me and asked me not to walk in front of it.

“I got my camera out thinking it was going to be a lovely picture of this young couple but then the romantic devil got down on one knee.

“It was great, I could hear what they were saying and the woman was overjoyed.

“She kept asking ‘are you joking’ - it was so romantic.”

Rob went over to congratulate the couple, who he said were “absolutely delighted” after the hilltop proposal on Christmas Eve.

He said: “I just happened to be in the right place at the right time and I am glad I was.

“I posted the picture on social media and everyone loved it.”
