Pervert's daughter hopes he dies

THE daughter of a paedophile jailed for molesting young girls has said she hopes her father kills himself in prison.

Sickened Trina Renton, 42, also blasted a five-year jail term handed to Scott Mackinnon, who attacked her father with a knife in March last year.

The 36-year-old later handed himself into police after slashing the throat of Henry Mitchell Renton, 67, at his home in Tranent, East Lothian. Renton had previously been found guilty of using lewd, libidinous practices and behaviour towards two girls, aged 10 and 12, between 2008 and 2010 at addresses in East Lothian after a trial at Edinburgh Sheriff Court.

He was sentenced on Monday to two years' imprisonment and placed on the sex offenders' register.

But Trina Renton, who was in court as he was sent down, said she hopes her father takes his own life while behind bars. "I personally don't think he's been punished enough," she said.

"I really hope that he does away with himself in jail. That for me would be the best result."

Trina, 42, said she had warned others that her father could be a danger to children when he moved to East Lothian from Coldstream some years ago.

"When I was growing up he would grab my breasts all the time and make comments," she said.

"I tried to warn people I knew in East Lothian what he was capable of but they didn't believe me.

"I was devastated when I found out what he'd done. I felt sick."

She described her father, who she has not spoken to for six years, as an "evil, violent" man.

"My mother, Eileen, died when I was 16. He was violent and would beat her up," said Trina.

She also condemned a five-year sentence meted out to her father's attacker - more than double the term Renton received.

"The sentence Scott received was absolutely shocking," said mum-of-five Trina.

"What he did harmed one person who deserved everything that was coming to him, but what my dad did has scarred children for life and destroyed families."

Meanwhile, the mother of one of Renton's victims - who cannot be named for legal reasons - said: "I'd known him since I was a bairn, he was a friend of my parents.

"He was a charming man and everybody got on with him.

"There are no words to describe what our family has gone through. I'm so glad he received a custodial sentence."
