Personal data of 10,000 lost

SCOTTISH councils have lost or misplaced the personal data of more than 10,000 Scots over the past five years.

West Lothian Council has lost the personal details of nearly 4500 people in 47 separate occasions, according to figures released through freedom of information legislation to the Conservatives.

A spokesman for the local authority is reported to have said that its losses were largely down to one incident in which 4001 landlords’ email addresses were made public.
“We have learned from that,” he said.
