Residents of the Banana Flats, on Cables Wynd took to their own balconies to join together to sing ‘Sunshine on Leith’.

One resident, Kelly Lindsay organised the event after meeting Tommy MacMartin from the I Love Leith Facebook community group.

The duo spread the word that The Proclaimers rendition would happen, but said ‘not many people believed it was going to happen’.

Kelly said: “It was really just for all the hard workers out there, people right now like nurses and drivers and doctors who are out there helping.

“It was brilliant, at first only three or four people started singing but when I got the speaker out to play the music, that’s when people joined in.”

As residents self isolate indefinitely, it was described as a way to lift community spirits and now a group has been created so that more renditions can be arranged in the future.

The videos of the singing have been celebrated widely by the Leith community.
