Sir Sean Connery: Current Bond Daniel Craig pays tribute to the legendary Scottish actor

Fellow James Bond actor Daniel Craig has released a statement paying tribute to Scottish actor Sir Sean Connery as new breaks of his death.

Craig, who first took on the role of Bond for 2006 film Casino Royale, has played the famous British agent five times, with the latest movie’s released delayed due to Covid-19.

His statement, paying tribute to the late Sean Connery, said: “It is with such sadness that I heard of the passing of one of the true greats of cinema.

“Sir Sean Connery will be remembered as Bond and so much more. He defined an era and a style. The wit and charm he portrayed on screen could be measured in mega watts; he helped create the modern blockbuster.

“He will continue to influence actors and film-makers alike for years to come.

“My thoughts are with his family and loved ones.

“Wherever he is, I hope there is a golf course.”

Sir Sean Connery was the first actor to play 007 in Dr No, released in 1962, and reprised his role as Bond another five times.

He won an Oscar for his role in the Untouchables, and is famous for taking on the part of Indiana Jones’ father in The Last Crusade.

Other tributes have poured in with First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and actors Sam Neil and Robert Carlyle adding their voices.

His family have said the actor “died peacefully in his sleep surrounded by family,” adding: “There will be a private ceremony followed by a memorial yet to be planned once the virus has ended.”
