Pamela Stephenson shared a photo of the 78-year-old retired comedian in a mask with a plaster over the area of the jab and wrote: “Thank God… Billy had his first Covid vaccine today!”

In the Florida Keys where the couple now live Glasgow-born Sir Billy is in one of the top tiers for those being vaccinated first.

Well wishers and fans responded in the comments with love and support for the Big Yin.

Last year, he announced his retirement after 50 years working in stand up as he opened up on his battle with Parkinson’s, discussing it while at home in Florida in ITV’s Billy Connolly: It’s Been A Pleasure in December.

He was diagnosed in 2013 with the degenerative condition that damages parts of the brain over years and added that while it disease does not define him, he has come to terms with death.
