Scots star in running for double Brits glory, despite not releasing an album

RISING Scots star Emeli Sande is in the running to taste double Brit Awards glory – despite not even having released an album yet.

The 24-year-old has already found out she would be winning the Critics’ Choice award at the star-studded ceremony at London’s O2 arena. However, yesterday it emerged that she will also be competing for the Best British Breakthrough act title with Anna Calvi, Ed Sheeran, Jessie J and The Vaccines.

News of her appearance on the Brits shortlists caps an incredible year for the R&B and soul singer, from Alford, in Aberdeenshire, who began her career writing songs for the likes of Alesha Dixon, Professor Green, Cheryl Cole, and Tinie Tempah. The event will be held just days after she releases her first album, Our Version of Events.

Singer Kate Bush is to go head-to-head with a clutch of younger rivals at next month’s Brit Awards – 33 years after first being honoured at the ceremony.

When the 53-year-old last won the best female award she fought off challenges from the likes of Kim Wilde and Joan Armatrading. But next month she will be up against Adele and Jessie J, both 23, 25-year-old Florence Welch, of Florence and The Machines, and Laura Marling, 21.

Ed Sheeran leads the Brits field this year with four nominations, ahead of Adele and Jessie J, who are both in the running for three. He goes up against Noel Gallagher, James Blake, James Morrison and Professor Green for the best British male title.

Coldplay will be competing for best British group with Elbow, Kasabian, Arctic Monkeys and Chase & Status.
