Friends having tea across the boundary of Edinburgh and East Lothian have warmed the hearts of onlookers

A photo of two friends having a brew and a chat on either side of the border between Edinburgh and East Lothian has brought a smile to the faces of many passers-by.

Seated a distance apart, the two pals have overcome the travel ban by remaining in their own area, but still find a chance for a chat.

This picture was taken by passing driver Craig Robertson while he was going through Musselburgh.

He said that he noted the pair had flasks on them and appeared to be drinking hot drinks.

Edinburgh is currently in level three which, as well as restricting meetings inside households, forbids residents to leave the city boundaries.

East Lothian is also in level three, and so the same restrictions apply.

Travelling between the levels is only allowed for essential reasons listed on the Scottish Government website.
