Determined mum Rebecca Greenland overcame all the odds after ten years of trying to have her baby girl.

The 28-year-old from Hailesland did not think she could conceive then had to endure seeing her partner in a coma before her decade of worry finally turned to joy with the arrival of little Skylar-Rose on June 6.

Cuddling the cute tot, Rebecca said: “After what we’ve been through it feels so amazing to have her.

“It didn’t feel real at the time and it still doesn’t feel real even when I’m holding her right now.

“With her, our family is now complete.”

Since being told their chances of having a baby were “very slim”, both Rebecca and her partner Chris Young, 33, did not think they would ever be able to have a child together.

She said: “We went to see a fertility clinic 10 years ago because we were trying and trying and kept on getting negative tests and when we went there, they said the chances of us having a baby are slim and having a baby naturally are very slim so we thought it wouldn’t be possible.”

The couple were then struck by a life-altering incident when Chris fell into a coma for a month after suffering from an asthma attack at his former home in Queensferry.

Rebecca said: “We were so scared because he was rushed to Leicester where there was a specialist and when he got there we were told to prepare for the worst.

We found out that he had also suffered from pneumonia and oxygen was being pumped into his brain- it was terrifying.”

She added: “He woke up after a month and started shouting ‘Becky! Becky!’

“I was so relieved but after that we had to put everything on hold with the pregnancy as we wanted to ensure he was healthy and feeling a lot better for being a dad.

“He had to learn how to walk again and learn how to move properly and so the pregnancy took a backseat.”

Yet three years later, as the couple awaited another appointment with a fertility clinic, Ms Greenland found out that she was pregnant after taking a pregnancy test.

She revealed: “Before the appointment, I was feeling really ill for a few weeks and I told my sister who told me to take a pregnancy test.

“I didn’t get my hopes up as I’ve taken so many and I knew it was very unlikely but I read out the results to my sister over the phone and she just started screaming and telling me I was pregnant and I just couldn’t believe it, I was so happy.”

Due to a brain condition she suffers from, called Chiari malformation, the pregnancy was incredibly painful and was riddled with complications such as the baby pressing down and injuring her kidneys.

Yet, on June 6, in the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh hospital, Skylar-Rose was born a healthy 6lbs and 11ozs by forceps delivery.

“It was such a painful experience and I was sick all the time, but it was totally worth it” said Rebecca, “I’d do it a million times over if it meant having Skylar-Rose.”
