The chieftain o’ the puddin’ race makes his grand entrance

hundreds of Rover Scouts and Rangers of the County of Edinburgh and Leith, who packed into the Scout headquarters in the port’s Victoria Terrace for their annual Burns’ Supper.

Addressing the haggis that year was Mary Nixon, guide adviser for Scotland, joined in the proceedings by Lord Elibank and the Captain of Dunstaffnage.

For many of them, it will have been a night to remember as they settled down to enjoy a meal with close friends and family.

Judging by their big grins, these South Morningside School pupils were also having a great time as they marked Burns’ Night some years later in January 1969.

Pupils and parents joined in the celebrations, with the school’s choir paying tribute to the man himself.
