Billy McDowell: Police confirm that body found in woods outside Whitburn is that of missing 59 year old man

The family of Billy McDowell have expressed their grief as Police Scotland formally identify his body.

His body was found in a wooded area on the outskirts of Whitburn.

He was last confirmed seen on Tuesday, July 28, at around 11:40am in West Main Street, Whitburn.

A body was found in the search on October 18 which has since been identified as 59-year-old Billy.

Billy McDowell’s family have said: “The family are deeply saddened by this news.

"Billy will be missed by his mum, brothers and sisters and extended family and friends.

"We will meet again.”Inspector Myles Marshall, of Livingston Police Station, said: “Our thoughts are still with Billy’s family and friends and we will continue to provide assistance and support to his family.

"I would also like to thank the public and the local community for their support throughout and for sharing our appeals to trace Billy.”

There are no apparent suspicious circumstances and a report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
