BBC to screen Oasis' rarely seen Glastonbury debut on pop-up channel

The BBC has announced it is to broadcast classic Oasis‘ rarely seen 1994 Glastonbury set on a pop-up channel later this month to celebrate what would have been the famous festival’s 50th anniversary.

This year's Glastonbury festival – which was due to feature the likes of Sir Paul McCartney, Taylor Swift and Kendrick Lamar – was called off amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

To fill the void, previous headline sets from superstars Beyoncé, Adele, Coldplay, David Bowie and Jay-Z will be shown on BBC Two and BBC Four.

Meanwhile, a new pop-up channel will appear on BBC iPlayer, which will feature more than 60 historic sets.

Playing second on the bill on the NME Stage on Sunday June 26, 1994, Oasis' Glastonbury debut came at a time when they'd only released two singles – Shakermaker and Supersonic – and were still a month away from the release of breakthrough album Definitely Maybe.

The full set will be available on demand via iPlayer, while highlights from the set will be screened on BBC Two at 8.30pm on Friday, June 26.
