Annie Lennox ‘planning third wedding’ with founder of HIV charity

SHE once publicly said she had had enough of marriage, but Scots pop star Annie Lennox is reportedly set to marry for a third time.

The Aberdeen-born singer, who made her name in the 1980s with a string of hits in pop duo Eurythmics with Dave Stewart, is said to be planning to marry South African gynaecologist Dr Mitch Besser.

Lennox, 57, met Dr Besser, also 57, through his Aids charity while in South Africa as part of her campaigning work.

Dr Besser, who has two children, divorced his ex-wife Debra last year. He set up a charity called Mothers2Mothers in Cape Town in 2001 which helps HIV positive mothers and has grown to over 700 sites within a decade.

Lennox’s first, short-lived marriage was to a Hare Krishna monk, Radha Raman. From 1988 to 2000 she was married to Israeli film and record producer Uri Fruchtmann.

They have two daughters, Lola, 22, and Tali, 19.

In a 2008 interview she vowed never to marry again. “No more marriage for me,” she said. “I don’t see the point of it. It’s not that I’m such a cynic. To share one’s life with someone is a beautiful thing. But for the moment, I’m a single person.

“That’s not to say I wouldn’t like to have a special relationship with someone. But I haven’t made a great job of it in the past. It would be pretty challenging to share my world. Life is pretty full.”

Lennox, who has sold over 80 million records, recently took centre stage at the Olympics closing ceremony with a performance of ‘Little Bird’.
