14ft snake found in Greenock as police warn there could be others on the loose

Police are investigating after a 14ft snake was found in Greenock amid reports that there could be others still on the loose.

The snake was captured and taken to be examined and cared for at a local veterinary practice.

Residents in the area took to social media to share the news a series of photographs and videos emerging of the animals throughout the day.

Inspector Paul Thompson at Greenock Police Station, said: “Officers are currently dealing with the reports of a number of sightings of large snakes in the Greenock and Gourock area.

"I would urge anyone who may come across a snake not to approach it, but to call the police reporting its position.

"At this stage we are carrying out local enquiries in order to establish if anyone is missing any snakes.

"Anyone who can help in this matter is asked to call police on the 101 number, quoting the reference number 1700 of February, 2.”
