People ‘need a greater say over services’

Giving people a say on local services will make Edinburgh more prosperous, according to an opposition councillor.

Councillor Norma Hart, economic development spokeswoman for the Labour group in the City Chambers, has backed her group’s proposals to set up a series of co-operatives in the city in areas including parks, energy, childcare and housing.

Writing for the group’s Moving Edinburgh Forward website, she asked: “How much more prosperous would our city be if . . . we had a co-operative council with co-operative values?”
