Pensioners conned by bogus workmen

BOGUS workmen conned two elderly victims into handing over thousands of pounds for roof repairs after being driven to the bank to withdraw cash.

An 80-year-old woman agreed for two men to carry out work on her property in Carlops Road in Penicuik, Midlothian, on Thursday, February 16.

The pensioner was taken to her local bank and handed over a four-figure sum of cash for the work, but the men never returned.

On the same day, two men visited the home of an 80-year-old man on the same street and told him his roof needed repairs.

The victim was driven to the bank where he withdrew money and handed it over. The men returned the next day and obtained a cheque for a three-figure sum from the victim for further work. They never reappeared.
