Pensioner dies after chasing gang who threw vegetables

A pensioner who collapsed after chasing a group of teenagers who had been pelting his home with vegetables died in hospital in the early hours of yesterday morning, police have confirmed.

David Alexander, 66, from Honeyman Court in Armadale, West Lothian, had been running after a gang of who were said to have been throwing peppers at his windows on Sunday shortly before he became ill.

Two 14-year-old boys have been charged in connection with an incident shortly before Mr Alexander's death.

Mr Alexander suffered a heart attack shortly after the alleged incident. Paramedics who were called to the scene revived him after he "died twice".

The pensioner was taken to St John's Hospital in Livingston on Sunday evening.
